WONDERFUL BELARUS

Belarus is situated in the centre of Europe. It is not very large – the area of my country is 207.6 thousand square kilometers. The population of the country is 9.5 million people. The largest city of the country is our capital Minsk – about 2 million people live there. Other large cities are Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev.

The nature of Belarus is very wonderful – you can see beautiful blue lakes and rivers, thick forests and old pushchas, green fields and meadows.
Summer temperatures are about +20 °C. But in winter it can be very cold – about -10 °C.
There are two official languages in Belarus – Belarusian and Russian. The official symbols of Belarus are the flag (with red and green stripes and white and red ornament), the emblem, the anthem and the costume (which is white with beautiful red ornaments). Some other symbols of my country are – a bison (a strong and big animal from Belovezhskaya Pushcha), a white stork (an interesting big bird) and a cornflower (a small blue flower of Belarusian fields).

Belarus is famous for its rich history. There are a lot of old cities, monuments and castles in my country. The most famous castles are Mir and Nesvizh castles. They have their legends, stories and ghosts. The Black Dame and the Black Nun are the ghosts of Nesvizh castle.

Francysk Skaryna is our first Belarusian printer. Yakub Kolas and Yanka Kupala are our national writers. Mark Shagal, who was a great painter, was born in Belarus. We have a lot of famous sportsmen – Darya Domracheva, Victoria Azarenka and others.

There is so much to see and so much to discover in Belarus! Welcome to our beautiful blue-eyed country.
